Rice Challenge

As part of our Fairtrade focus this session, the Fairtrade Group took part in the Malawi Kitchen 90kg Rice Challenge
In Malawi, less than 1 in 3 children attend High School. If a rice farmer in Malawi can sell 90kg of rice at a fair price, then he would have sufficient income to send one of his children to high school. Education is one of the most effective ways to escape poverty. The 90kg rice Challenge can help eat someone out of poverty.
The Fairtrade Group worked very hard selling 1kg bags of brown and white rice to parents and visitors at a cost of £3 per bag.
We are pleased to say that we sold all 90 bags, and successfully completed the Rice Challenge!
