Separating Mixtures - Sieving, Magnetism and Mechanical Separation

In Primary 6, we have been learning all about separating mixtures. Firstly, we learned all about what a mixture is. In groups, we looked at various different mixtures and had to decide which technique was most appropriate to separate them effectively. Some mixtures required more than one technique to be used. These are the mixtures that we looked at:

- Rice, lentils and flour
- Oats, lentils and salt
- Marbles, paper-clips, cubes, plastic balls
- Sand, lentils and pasta.

We had great fun taking part in these experiments and enjoyed learning in the process. We can’t wait to learn more about separating mixtures!
