The Victorians - Copperplate handwriting

This term Primary 6 are learning all about the Victorians. We have been thoroughly enjoying learning about this very significant time period.
Recently, we have been researching Victorian schools and how these compare to schooling now. We have been amazed to learn about the interesting lessons, the frightening teachers and the dreaded punishment of the cane!
We were interested to learn about how handwriting has changed since the Victorian Era and we have had a go at our own copperplate handwriting. We used chalk pencils and black paper to simulate slates and chalk. We then used ink and nibs to do our neatest handwriting. We tried hard not to blot our paper – although we were allowed to use our left hands!
